Adventures Aren't Always Pretty

Adventure: we define this as something out of the ordinary, exciting, perhaps a new experience or activity. We look forward to adventures, they are fun, enticing, and often times new.

I don't know about you, but when I am on an adventure, I am way more laid back that I am in my day to day life. If I am in another country, I am way more "go with the flow" than I am if I am sitting in my classes or at work. If I am hiking or on a day trip, I am willing to take things as they come and be flexible.

Sometimes, I think we need a perspective shift. Because more often than not, we think that an adventure needs to be some insanely grand thing. We need to schedule a day off work to take a day trip, schedule a trip out of the country, or get in the car and take a spontaneous road trip. While these are rather adventurous (and I encourage you to do these things), there are some realizations that have been thrown my way lately.

Maybe each day could be seen as a new little adventure. Yep, I said it, perhaps the most cliche thing I have ever typed onto a page. This is a lesson I am learning lately and one that I need to remind myself of each and every day.

If your life is anything like mine, it is so far from perfect, pretty, and put together. The older I get the more I learn that that is alright. I firmly believe that if we start to shift our perspectives, take each opportunity as it comes, and just live life by each moment, in a flexible, less glamorous way, things will start to change.

I don't really think that I was made to be uptight and stressed like I so often find myself.

So if you are there too, in a place of anxiousness, stress, and just a whole lot of tense, think about how you are when you don't have to be bound by a strict schedule. Think about how you are when you let your guard down. Think about how you are when you get to take a trip or go on a hike. Now live like that even in the mundane.

There is a whole world out there and for some reason, you are right where you are. I don't think you need to be in another state, country, or doing something new and crazy in order to make today adventurous. Go live your "normal", just in a different way.
