Staying Joyful: 4 Actions That Have Helped My Heart

One minute you could be sitting there eating a breakfast burrito and the next you could be having a panic attack.

Life is weird that way, the highs and the lows are in one constant chain reaction, one after the other. It even gets hard to be in the highs because of the anticipation of another low.

How do we be constant? How do we be joyful amidst trials?

Well friends, this may not be exactly the answer you are looking for but in all reality it just needs to be said.

Joy is a choice, you can wake up every single day and remind yourself that no matter what the day holds, you will have a joyful heart.

I am not saying it is easy, or that you completely have control of the circumstances that are in store. However, you do have the ability to let go of every ounce of control you have been hanging onto and choose to live in a free and happy manner.

Regardless of your passions, hobbies, or responsibilities, you have the choice each day to fill your day with things you LOVE.

Not in a selfish way, but in a way that honors you and honors God.

Here are 3 things that help keep my heart in check. Although each day isn't flawless by any means, I am learning that it is possible to have a happy heart and fill your days with things that truly matter.

1. Get outside.

Sometimes a good adventure can change your mindset. Getting outside, seeing creation, and appreciating the world around you could put a smile on your face.

2. Keep a gratitude journal.

When you wake up, say a prayer or write down things that you are grateful for. Let your heart rest and appreciate these things in order to get your day off to a joyful start.

3. Set goals...

and achieve them!

Whether these goals are spiritual, physical, mental, or educational, make a plan to achieve something each month and DO IT.

4. Celebrate little victories.

Taking time to appreciate the littlest accomplishments is something that I am still working on. It is alright to celebrate saving up some money or working out for a certain amount of time. Let yourself be encouraged by the things you have accomplished.

There you have it friends. These are four things that have helped me keep my heart joyful. Though life is not perfect, it is possible to seek the good in tough situations.
